Nowadays, the construction's world has been crowded with the talk about BIM. Maybe some of you still haven't ever hear or know about it. So, here I am want to give you a little introduction about BIM. Well, I don't really know much about it, but I have did a little search and follow the development about this issue through some web or join and view to some online courses. Which were very helpful. So, without wasting more time. Let's have some talk about this BIM. 😆
What is BIM?
BIM? What is BIM? Have any idea? Ah, right! I've been writing it on this post's tittle. BIM stands for Building Information Modeling. It is a promising developments in architecture, engineering, and construction field. With this technology, people who involved in a construction of any building, can make an accurate virtual model which will be constructed. Later on, this model will known as a building information model, and with this model people can use it for illustrating the planning, designing, constructing, and operating the facilities of the building.
Sounds so tempting, right? It is like we live in a more than 3D era. We can imagine how our building would exactly look like, even before the building has finished built in real life.
As what I know, what the BIM does, has already been popular for architectural's students. The software which correlated for BIM, such as AutoCad, Revit, TEKLA, SAP, is mostly used by architectural and civil engineering's students (also mechanical and ocean engineering). But they weren't already call it as a "BIM's activities".. Later then, the function of those software are combined for one same purposes, so that there is this "BIM".
BIM helps architects, engineers, and constructors, to visualize what is they are gonna be built. Not only that, furthermore, the use of BIM can also help in identifying any potential at design, choosing construction method, anticipating any operational issues, estimating costs or additional costs, calculating volumes, etc. The greatest value of Building Information Modeling to the construction industry may be its potential to reduce cost, increase productivity, reduce errors and improve the quality of our work products and to improve the built environment. As such, it can be a valuable tool in facilitating successful collaboration and coordination during pre-design, design, construction, and operation and maintenance of both new and existing buildings.

In short, BIM encourages an integration of the roles of every stakeholders on a project.
